While many fished for money, some fished for fun...

A report right from the source:

    The week of August 3, 2014 - August 10, 2014

    The Environment:

Not much different than last week … another week of hot summer days with warm water, excellent fishing and pleasant afternoons where you can enjoy a cool one around the pool.

Bisbee Tournament dominated the week. It was won by a 323-pound blue marlin. Stats should be out from the organizers today.

Water – The water temps are still right around 87-degrees.

Air – Hot! in the mid-90s with nice midday breezes.
    .
    The Bottom Line:

Bait guys are doing a great job with caballitos and bait boats were making sardina right in front of Leonero this week. Not small, but they are working for tuna.

    All-In-All: A solid 8.5+ on the Rancho Leonero 1 to 10 scale.

Billfish – The tournament stats will tell a better story but there were blues and stripers caught all week. The sailfish right now outnumber the stripers which is normal in the warmer water.

Yellowfin Tuna – The tuna hole south of Los Frailes is still producing a large number of fish ... the average was bigger over 40 pounds. Sardina, dead or alive were working best for the tuna with a few caught on caballitos.

Dorado – There were some 30- to 40-pound dorado taken in with the tuna and there have been schoolies all over the East Cape.

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch …

Inshore fishing? Still the same culprits hanging on: Pargo and amberjack. The roosterfish bite has slowed. I think this is because of the warmer water, but don't despair! September and October are normally excellent roosterfish months!
