This past May offered an incredible marlin bite amongst the usual thick sailfish concentrations here in Guatemala off the calm pacific coast. Last week amongst just 15 boats, almost 25 marlin were raised, 20 +/- were big blue marlin, while the rest were larger stripe marlin. In addition the sailfish bite proved tip top as our boat managed to get 12 sailfish to bite the fly, while we only released 3 that day (bad luck). In addition the yellow fin were biting good as were the dorado (mahi mahi).
The following day was equally impressive as we raised 4 stripe marlin, 3 bit, and we released 2. 1 was smaller, so we did a quick picture which isn't something we promote doing. That day on conventional we also released 20 sailfish, incredible bite in may, june, july. This time of the year marks a great marlin bite, as well as thick dorado numbers due to floating debris.
