Faial, Azores - August 2013

  • Whilst the fishing does appear somewhat slow at the moment - see our member's report below - I've just noticed on Brazilia's BLOG - http://bluemarlin.skyrock.com/1.html - that Olaf Grimkowski and Marty Bates on Xacara have just taken a ladies potential world line class record for Gary Carter's wife. The fish weighed 532lbs and was taken on 16lb class tackle. There're images of the fish on that BLOG>

Now our member's report from mid-August:

    Zitat

Just back from a frustrating 10 days in the Azores fishing with Zak Conde on Boca Raton. Managed a 600 lb Blue on 50lb on 1st day, jumped off a 200 lb Blue and missed a 700 lb on pitch bait - 3 Blue bites in 10 days, with all the fleet struggling to get bites, but with some quality fish up to 850 lb being caught.

Also caught 3 Whites - just need a Swordfish for my Grand Slam

  • There are some reasonable results coming from Faial at the moment - some BIG Blue Marlin to potential 'grander' size and also Bluefin up to 700lbs plus. That of course if you want to tackle a Bluefin in that deep water! At least one stripped a 130 of line before escaping!

Also of interest was another potential ladies world record attempt by Sherrell Carter fishing Xacara on 12lb test this time. She hooked up at 11:30 and lost the 'green' Blue estimated at 400lbs plus some 14 hours later when the line popped. There're further details and images on this BLOG - http://bluemarlin.skyrock.com/3.html . If the reference has changed, look further back - the fight took place on 27th August.
