Signs of Improvement, Sailfish Taking Bait, Bay Marlin Written by: Stan Gabruk owner of Master Baiter´s Sportfishing & Tackle All and all things have not changed much from last week. We still have perfect conditions, perfect water temperatures and more than enough bait. The water is blue, the seas are fairly smooth and frankly the only thing that that could make it all perfect are the seasonal Gamefish we´re still waiting to see. But there are signs of change, Sailfish are taking bait, Dorado are still small, but increasing in numbers and while there is a too much bait in the water, they have a chink in their fish armor. While still held for fish, we´re optimistic and we should see some positive changes by next week, I think, but then again, I´ve been wrong before, just ask my ex-wife.Those heading out fishing this past week were under whelmed to say the least. Hard work and an experienced crew would insure you came in with at least some fish. The last few days have seen some strange, in my mind anyway, things. Sailfish have started taking baits, why? Who knows and who cares as long as it continues to pick up we´ll just be happy. If you´re in the area off the Marietta / El Morro Islands about ten miles the Sailfish have been taking dead baits (goggle eyes, Skippies). Also lures of pink and blue or petrelaros (brown and orange) in six inch lengths are working well, actually better than live bait. Near the islands Needle fish, Snappers, Bonito in the 35 lb range are also taking baits. Dorado are small, very small and they´re throw backs, just remember to throw them back no matter what your captain says. Plenty of bait, but when dead bait works better, then kill some bait in the live well….Corbeteña and El Banco is less than exciting. Snappers in the 35 lb range, Smaller Dorado, Sailfish are the saving grace, but why go the distance when the Marietta Islands are ¨cooking¨. My prediction is there will soon be larger Marlin at the deep water locations and we have some positive signs that are indicators, more on this later. All and all no real reasons to head to El Banco and Corbeteña, but again, this can change in a heartbeat.Up near Punta Mita at the Anclote reef area, Jack Crevalls have taken over and are running in the 35 to 45 lb ranges. A winter species this is surprising to find them in the local summer time waters. But nature is confusing and those in the area will have some arm burning action you can rely on. These Jack Crevall have been in this area for the last two weeks and I see no reason for these things to change in the near future. Small Dorado are here as well just like everywhere else. Sailfish are in the area and will most likely now take your trolled baits. Inside the bay the trash line is still working its magic. Near Yelapa at the south end of the bay there are schools of Skip Jack Tuna, Bonito and assorted other smaller fish. For the short time or short day angler this is a great option. Affordable, and fast, a super panga is made for this sort of day. Early departures mean early returns which of course means your spouse can join you and still have time to soak up some sun and shop. One strange thing that happened just the other day was a commercial fisherman was pulling in some Skip Jack Tuna and hooked into a good sized Blue Marlin. This shocked the day-lights out of these fisherman and ultimately were not geared to keep the Marlin, but the simple fact a Marlin came into the bay and took bait on a hand line is encouraging. Me, along with all the salty Captains and Crew members are expecting to see large Gamefish show up any day. Normally by the second to third week of July we´ll see the larger species like Yellowfin Tuna, Blue and Black Marlin along with Dorado move in gradually. So don´t be discouraged, everything is happening on time. So save those fuel dollars and spend them wisely, which of course means to go for short days or hold off and wait for Tuna.So there you go, the fishing is not as good as we would like, but this is not surprising since it´s still early in the Fishing Season. With the perfect water, sea and bait conditions it´s only a matter of time before the inevitable happens. So hang in there and be ready to act. Before this week ends I am sure we´ll see fish move in and then we´ll be off to a spectacular Fishing High Season. If you head out for eight hours or more you´ve got a better than 60 /40 chance of boating Sailfish, Dorado, Needle fish and Snappers. Not bad and eight hour fishing days are about the limit for most good wives. Smaller fish are in the bay, short days and with the Trash Line, you´ve got action on the cheap. The bite is starting to move earlier, so later departures are not helpful for now. One thing to remember at this time of the year is as the rain washes down the organic materials, it also washes down Stumps, Furniture, Refrigerators and I´ve even seen a dead horse floating in the bay. These of course are the larger items, but the smaller items under the surface of the water. A boat traveling at a fair speed will find these obstacles with a prop, support or shaft. Pre-dawn departures are going to be a slow go until the sun comes up to do the best to avoid damaging the boat. Important to the clients the following day and of course the boat owner and crews. So keep this in mind, leaving before the sun comes up, doesn´t mean you´ll be at the fishing grounds any earlier than leaving in the sun-up morning hours. If you are not a local or a professional, then heed this warning amigo, even private boats will find the expense of a broken shaft is not preferable to a slower and safer speed. Even with the sun up, it´s best for non-locals to remember this fact when they return as well. The bay if full of stuff that will hurt the boat and your wallet. No Slowdown for Demand for Puerto Vallarta Sportfishing Charters

As I walk around Marina Vallarta putting customers on boats in the early morning hours heading out for a day of Sportfishing, I can’t help but notice that the predictions of doom and gloom for the Charter Fishing industry here in Puerto Vallarta is anything but gloomy! While hotels boast that occupancy is down by 30%, fishing charters are busy as usual. It could be the pull back as predicted on T.V. will be less severe, or maybe it’s that people who were over extending themselves are finally taking a look at their finances. I prefer to believe the latter. But fishing has never been cheap and when it comes to Sportfishing, those with the bucks are still in the game. For the guy who’s been saving his nickels and dimes and thinking of boating a Marlin half his life, nothing is going to keep him from his finned fantasy. With Puerto Vallarta still being the best value for your fishing dollar as well as being stacked with fish, this would explain the enthusiasm compared to the 40% drop in charters in Florida for example.

With fish the size of your car at our world famous fishing grounds, Corbetena is living up to expectations with Black and Blue Marlin running anywhere from 350 to 750 lbs at the moment. Yellowfin have been a little on the smaller side this past week with most being brought in around 60 to 125 lbs. Not a bad for the visiting angler, but the guy looking for a Monster over 200 lbs would be a little stressed. Mahi Mahi, and Sailfish are more than plentiful and bait is available at all the fishing grounds. But remember to get some Chorras or bait when you can. Nothing is worse than not making bait and watching other boats getting fish and you’ve got nothing but excuses.

Down the way, El Banco is still producing when it comes to Yellowfin tuna, but it’s the same situation as Corbetena at present. One issue this week was the waters outside the bay this week were a little rough with a low pressure system coming in directly on Puerto Vallarta (PV) kicking up the seas for a couple of days. It deterred people from heading out and we all know getting sick is no fun. Sailfish, Mahi Mahi (35 to 50 lbs) and Marlin here always seem to be a little bigger, but can be unexpectedly slow on some days. It’s still well worth your fuel dollar!

Marietta Islands this week has been the place to be if you’re looking for Mahi Mahi. They’re everywhere, but it seems that if you’re around the Islands you’ve got a 90% plus chance of boating Dorado in the 25 lb and up range. Sailfish have also set up house and trolling a gogle eye will get you a strike before you have a chance to get the pole in a rocket launcher. So be on your toes and keep your eyes open for jumping Sailfish.

The report this week is easy and almost automatic. There are fish everywhere here in PV, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to hit the farthest out locations to have a wonderful time. This week when other boats were heading out to The Bank and Corbetena, Capt. Chema from Mi Jenny (29 ft. Super Panga) was boating anywhere from fifteen to thirty Mahi Mahi in six to eight hour trip durations. With the amount of fairly large Mahi Mahi, the angler on a budget this past week did better than the guys spending two to three times what it would run out to El Banco. But I will say this, Capt. Chema has a tendency to find fish when others are making excuses. The pictures this week are a result of a day on the water with Capt. Chema and he’s available through us at Master Baiters in the Marina Store or the Down Town store.

For those of you interested in tournaments, the Pez Vela Tournament here in Puerto Vallarta takes place Nov. 12th (Captains Meeting), 13th, 14th and 15th. Unlike the Bisbee’s Tournament, we have herds of Billfish here in P.V. and this year promises to be one to remember. If you’re in Town make sure you come by the weigh station and watch the action. If you’re interested in entering the Pez Vela Tournament this year we have several boats to choose from and we don’t double our daily prices as most of the charter companies do. Many of Master Baiter’s Captains are past winners of this and other tournaments, so there are no “quality” of the “captain or bat” issues.

So as a whole, we had a good week, with a bump in the” weather road”. As winter comes on we’ll see calmer and calmer seas with big fish until mid to late January when the water temperatures drop slightly. So make sure you get your plans in to get that finned fantasy you’ve always dreamed of.

Title: The season stays strong with Mahi Mahi and Sailfish leading the way!

You always know when the seasons are changing with the arrival of the Whales for mating season (Dec. to March) in our own Bay of Banderas. This is also an indication that the water temperatures are beginning to fluctuate a touch, although the Whales have gotten here relatively late this year. The smaller game fish have migrated more out towards the points where the current is warmer, so naturally it has brought the Sailfish and Mahi Mahi in a touch closer to shore.

The week has shaped up nicely and the fishing is noticeably better, but the Yellowfin are still running small for this time of year. Last year at this time we were seeing 300 lb. Yellowfin Monsters coming in daily, this week we’re happy if we boat a Yellowfin over 100 lbs. But that’s fishing and it’s anything but an exact science.

El Banco has been uncharacteristically quiet. But the North end of El Banco is strong with Sailfish, Large Mahi Mahi, Black Marlin (diminishing numbers) and the occasional Stripped or Blue Marlin. Try trolling Lures, Rigged Goggle eyes, Kites, and every other thing you have in your bag of tricks until something works and something will, so don’t quit!

Corbetena has been smoking like you’d expect with a long list of game fish, Sail, Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin if you’re in the right spot at the right time, Pargo, and more. No special tricks here just go through your color (lures) and experiment. Blue and Purple colors were working last week, but I know a few Captains that are changing between pink and red with some success, so give it a try.

The bay has gone cold, the bait fish that draw the larger game fish in are following the bait to the points like I mentioned earlier. For that reason, Punta Mita has been the place to be for the last Six weeks and this week was no different. San Pancho or the San Francisco area is turning into the most reliable locations for sizeable game fish. Shorter duration trips are many times coming up short on count and species. Longer trips are working for Yellowfin or Black Marlin. But everyone knows you’re not normally going to have a shot at Black Marlin in close, then again I’ve been made a liar more than once.

One area many people have a tendency to ignore is the point at Cabo Correntes, the other point to the south of the bay. Many times you can find this area thick with Billfish just lounging in groups or swimming in six packs, spectacular to say the least.

This week I want to take a second to discuss what you’re actually paying for when chartering a boat. Most people come into the shop trying to get the best price they can get. You may want to think along these lines the next time you choose a charter company. Some boats go quickly to the fishing grounds, others are slower than tugs. All promise to catch fish, yet when you look at their tackle you have to wonder “With what, this?” What you wind up paying for and what you get is where the dilemma lies. The savvy fisherman will ask how long it takes to get to the fishing grounds? Is it worth the trip or can you get desired species closer in? Most importantly, how much time will I have my lines in the water based on average travel time there and back with normal sea conditions? One way to make a charter “cheaper for clients” or more affordable is to go out at a snails pace to El Banco or Corbetena. On average the slower boats will cause you lose two hours of fishing. But you saved yourself a hundred dollars. In that scenario, you actually paid too much and saw less value in your purchase, with it usually being a lower quality operation. Now most Americans and Canadians will figure this out once they’ve found their way to the fishing grounds where boats that passed them on the way out are now boating fish as you arrive. Now I’m not sure about you, but that would set me off like a Roman Candle!

Another thing that most people assume is that the newest boat they can find is the best boat. Well, not necessarily, you want a capable, safe and reliable boat, but the boat is for transportation. It gets you there and back, but it’s the Captain and First Mate that make the trip. So the crew is the main variable, great crews produce fish, even if the boat isn’t something you’d see on ESPN. So when you come to town, remember to ask how much of the trip duration will be with your line in the water? Then take your trip cost, divide by the hours you’re actually fishing (exclude travel time) and this is your true cost.

Updated Info December 11: The water temperatures the last couple of days have dropped drastically at El Banco. Satellites show it being in the 71 degree range, which will affect the strategies for fishing here in PV. Water temperatures at Corbetena is still in the low 80's in degrees for my European readers. Yellowfin have dropped in size as would be expected with cooler water. But no worries amigos, Yellowfin Tuna are here in PV all year long and as long as a 70 lb. Yellowfin can still get your motor started, then you'll love it here all year. But this is normal every year and things could change just as quickly next week!

The water in the warmer areas is also dirty as late... but warm. So planers are working to get your bait down a little into hopefully blue water and you have a great chance of hitting a Sail. So don't worry, just get here amigo

Jack Cravells are making their way back into the area, another example of the seasons changing. Now if you've never caught one of these Tuna Family beauties, you don't know what you're missing. Fly fishing enthusiast love these, but bring your 8 to 10 weight poles, really!

Carlos is still fighting Graffiti in our fair community and is making quite a difference. Carlos fed up with the low rent eye sores that are born of uneducated and criminal elements. Let’s keep the city beautiful by contributing time, money or support of any kind to this project and you’ll be glad you did when you don’t notice those eye sores…..

Puerto Vallarta - No Name Captains Catch Fish Also!

This past week we’ve all been busy with the increase in visitors to our fair city, with many of them interested in our World Class Fishing grounds and rightly so. When things are about as good as they get, to say “right now it’s just more of the same”, is more than a mouth full. There is a steady stream of charter boats heading out every morning, so you can imagine the action on the docks in the early hours of the day. It’s actually an interesting thing to see people arriving, getting final provisions at the mini Supers, and heading out into one of Puerto Vallarta’s Spectacular Sun Rises! If you live in the Marina and are an insomniac, then grab a cup of coffee, sit on a bench and welcome the day the PV way! After and opening paragraph like that, you can expect to catch just about any fish you want to target, with no hassle these days, Except Yellowfin Tuna. But take heart, there have been some changes which I hope will follow last years lead and bring us into December with 200 pound plus Yellowfin Monsters once again. El Banco, Corbetena, Lots of Black Marlin and Sailfish. In fact if I had to say what the dominant species is out in our fishing grounds, I’d have to say Sailfish, hands down. In fact there are so many Sails out at these areas, especially Corbetena that the waters looks like a Cactus garden with the bills just sticking up out of the water where they’re congregating. Marlin is out there also, but fishermen are fickle, why go out two plus hours to get fish you can get closer in? So that’s the case in the deep water. Tuna, Yellowfin to be particular are out there in big numbers, but nothing, nada, zipo again. There has been some sign of Yellowfin taking the bait using a kite, but only scattered reports on this. The Squid, Krill shrimp and Tuna Crabs are still out there. In fact if we were eating the same stuff the fish are here, we’d go broke no joke! Stay tuned, things can’t stay like this much longer. El Morro, The Marietta’s and the area between these locations and The Bank is still worth working if you’re looking for Striped or Blue Marlin. Dorado, Jack Cravells, Sails and more are here and waiting for you as we speak, so to speak….. The continued secret is still Punta Mita and locations north. The unusual thing is that there have been Black Marlin boated less than twenty miles off the point up to San Pancho. Lures are still working great, Pink, Yellow or Orange still seem to be the dominant colors this week, but remember things can change, so if one thing doesn’t work after about forty minutes, change the rigs and do it all over again. Sooner or later, you’ll find a winning combination.

The summary for this week is there are still plenty of fish, plenty of bait and the Yellowfin are less fickle, but still fussy. Mahi Mahi are anywhere from thirty to fifty pounds, Sailfish on tap, even Black Marlin off the point of Punta Mita to San Pancho!

This week I want to touch bases on something, believe it or not, that recently occurred to me. Marlin Mag, ESPN, and a host of others come to Puerto Vallarta every year and go out into our fishing grounds to ultimately write articles about local “Name” Captains and how their skill and ability resulted in Monster Yellowfin Tuna, Giant Marlin, etc. But here’s the secret, the few names that do show up in Marlin Mag., etc are not the only people or I should say Captains that fish our waters. Everyday there are “No Name” Captains coming in with finned fantasies for half the price of some of these guys. Where do these guys come from, you might ask? Well, here of course. Most of the Marina Vallarta Captains, and this includes Los Penas Marina, are second, third or fourth generation fisherman who have ON THE JOB TRAINING. You can’t beat a captain that grew up here and knows these waters like the back of their hands. So when you’re considering a charter, remember the Captain you never heard of, will be half the price as the Name, and every bit as capable.Thanks again to everyone who’s been supporting our efforts to eradicate Graffiti in our fair city! Carlos tell me we have plenty of paint and brushes for the time being and I should continue to ask for Volunteers like the Parks that took two days of their vacation to patrol the city and find new graffiti! Nov. 29 Update: It looks like the Yellowfin Tuna Drought is over. Several boats the last few days have boated Yellowfin Tuna in the 150 lb range. They’re taking bait, but it needs to be smaller baits like Google eyes with a purple skirt rig. Kites are also working now a well for the Yellowfins. It appears the Tuna or Red Crabs and Krill Shrimps have either been eaten or floated off with the currents. Ten and twelve hour trips are where you’ll find these babies right now. Fishing Report for Week of 11 18 07 For Master Baiter’s Sportfishing and Tackle<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />Written By: Stan Gabruk<o:p> </o:p>November is a busy month in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City><st1:place>Puerto Vallarta</st1:place></st1:City> and this year is the city has been alive with festivals and tournaments. One such Tournament is or was the 52<SUP>nd</SUP> Pez Vela y Marlin Torneo or in English: 52<SUP>nd</SUP> Sailfish and Marlin Tournament of Puerto Vallarta. The Club de Pesca always does a great job of handling the tournament and this year was no different. With over seventy boats this year and plenty of fish in our World Famous Fishing Grounds the top prize was up for grabs. I have to say even though the fish had to be weighed in; it was nice to see that the Captains this year were showing restraint in the number of Billfish that were brought to weigh in this year. Check out www.fishvallarta.com for the results and other related information so you can be ready for next year’s tournament!<o:p> </o:p>Like you might expect, when it’s Tournament time in Puerto Vallarta (PV), the fishing is at it’s best for the year. There are fish everywhere, so it’s time again to play, Pick Your Fish…. Looking for Dorado or Mahi Mahi, then North of Punta Mita, ten miles out, it’s “<st1:place><st1:PlaceName>Fish</st1:PlaceName><st1:PlaceType>City</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>”! Nice sized Dodos running in the 35 to 50 lb. range are “On Tap”. Sails and Black Marlin are in the area, but they’re a low percentage fish to target here. Jack Cravells are moving back into the area with acres of Skipjacks churning up the waters.<o:p> </o:p>Yellowfin Tuna, what can you say about the Yellowfin except nothing has changed from last week. We were thinking things may change as the currents carried out the Tuna or Red Crabs and Krill Shrimps. Well, if anything, there are more Shrimps out there with a new twist, Squid. The favorite food for Yellowfin Tuna! But don’t run out thinking you’ll bait up for the next day or go to the local market and rig up some Calamari….. Don’t really have an answer or strategy to suggest. But they’re out there, they’re big, and if you can get one to take the bait, call me!<o:p> </o:p>Now Marlin and Sailfish, this is the bet this week! With the tournament going, this should be no surprise that the action this week has a “Bill”. Black Marlin is everywhere, especially when and where you least expect it. The picture this week is with Donna Wiles, with her first Black Marlin caught off the point of Punta Mita, it took two hours to boat and was caught on a Yellow / Orange Tiger striped lure ten miles off the point. Felicidades or Congratulations Donna, maybe your husband will get a chance to boat one of these babies next time. <o:p> </o:p>Corbetena and El Banco are still sluggish when is come to action. Naturally the bottom fishing at Corbetena can’t be beat, but if you’re heading out there for the Yellowfin, well you know the story. Lots of Sailfish and this is where the Giant Blacks are dwelling right now. We’re still seeing Black Marlin in the 600 to 800 lb range, but less and less. The averages on the Blacks seem to be in the 250 to 600 lbs. The Yellowfin are in the 200 lb range, if you can turn their heads. It’s like getting your wife’s attention when she’s watching Opra, you gotta try, but your expectations are low!<o:p> </o:p>Master Baiter’s is proud to announce that High Maintenance is once again part of the Master Baiter’s fishing fleet. Puerto Vallarta has a revolving door that opens up to the entire free world. Every year we host millions of vacationers seeking a safe adventure, excitement, relaxation and most of all memories that will last a life time.

Those coming to our little corner of paradise are finding “Normal” conditions here in Puerto Vallarta (PV to the locals) when it comes to fishing. I say that “tongue in cheek” since normal here in PV, for this time of the year, is considered about as good as it gets! If there ever was a time of year to get that finned fantasy, now would be it!

El Banco for the last couple of weeks has been a little disappointing with herds of Cows or Yellowfin Tuna over 200 lbs, not taking any baits, nothing, nada, zipo! Ah, but that was last week, this week we’re seeing signs of life. The Tuna or Red Crabs are still out there, but they’re floating off with the currents and we’re starting to see some smaller (75 to 140 lb) Yellowfins coming in. So it looks like this week we’ll be back into “Cow Country” soon. Tuna Crabs are nothing new to my readers, they show up for about two weeks every year and play havoc with Yellowfins.

The nice thing about PV is if one species isn’t hitting, another one is. Where the Tuna have left off, the Black Marlin and Sailfish have taken over. El Banco, and Corbetena are living up to their reputations with almost every angler heading out for ten hours or more are coming in with dead arms, big grins and fish stories for a life time. Marlin in the 250 to 600 lb range is being caught daily (Catch and Release). Sailfish are running in six packs (they swim side by side in groups like they’re ready to pull a chariot) and are very aggressive. Mahi Mahi, Striped Marlin and more are calling your name! Can you hear it?

Corbetena is cooking as well. Marlin Sails, Mahi Mahi, the list goes on and thank the heavens we can call these sorts of conditions boringly “normal”. One nice thing is for about a thousand dollars, you can hit this spot and bring along four friends. It makes a great day and let’s face it, how many times in your life will you have the opportunity to do something like this. It’s a memory factory out there, are you going to go home and think about what you missed for the last year?

Marietta Islands and El Morro don’t have Black Marlin, but Striped Marlin and Blue Marlin have been spotted and boated here, but not in large numbers. For those with a desire to catch Sailfish, they’ve been running in the 70 to 125 inch range here as well.

Punta Mita area is fish city! Anything can and is happening here, even the occasional Marlin. If you’re targeting Mahi Mahi, this is the place to be! Large, close in, plentiful and hungry! Plus those interested in bottom fishing or fly fishing, can still hit the Snook at the river mouths, Snapper where there’s structure and Skipjack tuna

The bottom line right now is this: If you’re not catching fish, it’s you, not the fishing. The only down side is the shorter duration trips, are not coming in with the much to speak of. So if you’re heading down to PV or are already here, you need at least an eight hour trip to put you in the thick of things. Something to keep in mind when booking a charter.

Carlos tells me that people have been stopping, recognizing his efforts with donations and paint brushes from Anita Martinez. Next time you’re driving around town and you see Carlos painting over graffiti remember, we all live here together, if you don’t care, who will?

With conditions as close to perfect as they can be with plenty of bait fish in the water, we’re expecting our incredible conditions to continue, make sure you’re not left out.

Some of the readers of the Big Game Board know me or of me. My name is Stan Gabruk and I'm the owner of Master Baiter's Sportfishing and Tackle in Puerto Vallarta. I've been invited to submitt my weekly fishing report by those who manage this site. So I thank you all for the opportunity to become part of the community and look forward to hearing from my new friends, half a world away.,,,But for now, on to the report.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>This week Marina Vallarta is all a Buzz with the upcoming Pez Vela Torneo or Tournament to us English Speaking types. As is usual at this time of the year, the Sailfish are running in six packs out there and this year I’m expecting a spectacular Tournament!<o:p></o:p>But not only are the Sailfish “in town”, Black Marlin, Yellowfin Monsters and Mahi Mahi have been what people are talking about this week!The hot spot has been just off the point at Punta Mita. There are so many large Dorado’s or Mahi Mahi out there that the focus for other hot spots has turned to this area. Not only Mahi Mahi, Sailfish (which are everywhere), Roosters of nice size, and even Black Marlin are being boated less than ten miles off the point. This area has turned into one of the most reliable fishing locations we have here with no end in sight.<o:p></o:p>The Bank or El Banco is still a little fickle. The Yellowfin are out there, but again this week the mystery bait is grabbing their attention. The Yellowfin Tuna have also come in a little smaller in size this week. Many of the Captains are blaming the ever present Seiner Factory Ships for the smaller Tuna, and I understand after seeing them myself for so many of these past years.Corbetena has been smoking hot a late. Black Marlin, Pargo, Dorado, Wahoo (that’s right, I said Wahoo) and of course smaller Tuna. But with the same game fish in closer to shore, why burn the fuel?The real place to be this week was smack in the middle of the Golden Triangle. The area from El Morro, to El Banco, then over to Corbetena, and back to El Morro is one of the most fertile areas to troll these days. Many Wahoo have been accidentally caught there as well. Many of the fish that have been boated have been on lures. Live bait these days is something you need to have, but you’ll probably be glad you got a good selection of color along with you. Google Eyes with the skirt rigs are still working, but forget the kites right now.<o:p></o:p>Well, it looks like the fishing regulations are about to become enforced. This past week the navy has been checking boats for fish caught. It was hit and miss, but it’s something to remember when considering fishing here. It started in Cabo and frankly, I think it’s about time. I have a copy of the regulations scanned and in my computer, so if you’d like a copy fire me an email and I’ll get one out to you.One interesting thing in the Fishing Regulations is you are not allowed to filet your catch at the fishing grounds because it’s against the law to do so. So don’t think you’ll get around the limit by filleting the fish and stuffing it in the cooler, won’t work. If anything, it makes the ticket worse. I don’t think they’ll be enforced during the upcoming tournament, but then again, who knows. So keep an eye out and make sure you at least know what the regulations are so you don’t learn them from a jail cell!<o:p></o:p>With the tournament coming up, there are still several beautiful boats available for the upcoming tournament. One thing that keeps our tournaments from filling up is the price of boats. It’s normal for a charter boat to double its fee, covering the extended hours, fuel, labor cost, etc. This can run the completive angler upwards towards $13,000.00 usd with the entry fees! If you’re interested in participating in the tournament, breath easy amigo, I’ve got options for you… I have several boats that will charge only the difference in fuel usage and extra bait. Three day prices for great boats start at: $2,800 usd and will go up to a max or $4,500.00 usd on a 38 ft. Lures Express. I have six boats in this price range waiting to win you upwards of $300,000.00 usd in cash and prizes.
