Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo
San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is
geared more for families and novice anglers,
making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and
lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with
us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most
important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accomodate
fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the
report for this past week.
WATER: Well the water temperatures
have been changing a bit and here is a few
different locations with water temperatures. Los Frailes is 76.9, San
Jose 78, the 1150 area 80 degrees, from the Arch to the Golden Gate is 79 to
81. So the temps have fell a bit in some areas but actually the warm water is
really been hanging in there with us and this has been making for some good
fishing. Some windy conditions over the last 3 or 4 days have made for some
wind driven choppy conditions.
WEATHER: The weather has still been good. It is cooling
down some but not as cool as it normally is this time of year. Really our so
called winter hasn’t set in yet. We have had some overcast over the last 3 days.
Yesterday was the coolest day we have had in awhile. The winds were blowing in
the afternoon and it was cloudy. Right now its Sunday morning and it seems nice
out. Still a little cloudy but mostly sunny going into the low 80,s today. Not
to bad I don’t when others are getting
snowed on.
BILLFISHING: The fishing was kinda
slow the first few days of the week but around mid week things had begun to
change. The Striped Marlin started biting again and they seem to have moved
offshore some with the best areas producing were 5 to 6 miles off the Lighthouse
and they were biting lures and live bait. San Cristobel and the Golden Gate
were getting Marlin also, so most of the action was on the pacific side, quite
a few Striped Marlin and a few Sailfish. A couple reports of Blue Marlin being
caught but with cooler water temps I think we may not see to many of the Blues
around. The Striped Marlin have been averaging 90 to 100 pounds with a few
going to 120 to 130 pounds.
BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollares a piece
and there has been plenty around.
TUNA: There hasn’t been
any big schools of Tuna spotted in our area over last couple weeks. Gordo Banks
has been producing some good size Tuna some like 90 to 100 pounds. Chunking
Bonito and slow drifting have been catching fish. The Tuna fishing all in all
has really slowed.
DORADO. Like the Marlin the Dorado were even kinda pickie
when the week started. Fishing had slowed quite a bit the first part of the
week but by wednesday
it was getting back to normal and the Dorado started hitting again. They
seemed to be hitting anything you were throwing at them again. The size on some
of the Dorado had gotton a little smaller compared to last week but they were
in the 12 to 15 pound range with a few
going up to 30 to 40 pounds. The fish seemed to be scattered out all over the
local fishing grounds. Most of our boats had to work much harder this week to
get limits of Dorado compared to last week when it was really easy to limit out
all over the place, could be signs of cooler water moving into the area.
INSHORE. The inshore fishing
remains good from Tule to Los Arcos. There has been reports of Sierras showing up
from the Arch to the Light House. The Pangas were catching the Sierras on
Hoochies. A few Yellow Tail also caught up to 30 pounds. The Pangas fishing for
Dorado and Striped Marlin close to shore have been doing not bad. The Dorado
are 8 to 15 pounders. The Snapper fishing has been good also with some Dog
Snappers being caught, in the rocks, up to 40 pounds. They are real fighters
and if you are spearing them do not hit them in the body otherwise you will
have a hell of a battle on your hands. You need to hit them in the temple with
a spear. Just a reminder for any spear fisherman out there.
WAHOO: The Wahoo fishing has really slowed compared to last
week . The fish that are being caught are small ones. Some boats have picked
some up on Rapalas. Not a lot to report on the Wahoo this week . I only heard
of one 30 pounder being caught at the Gordo Banks.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats
from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years (
Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might
have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are
really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these
outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don’t even
know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the
boat. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat.
You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where
you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where
your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying
to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person
guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there
is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are
not reputable and don’t care about your
interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on
Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don’t have
an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not
established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you
rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing
fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the
costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not
want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to
the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel
forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about
the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be
supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to
fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting
your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things
to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this
